VOLLEYBALL
A net and divided court sport played by two teams of six players. The objective is to send the ball over the net so that it lands on the opponent's floor. Each team has a maximum of three touches to return the ball. The game does not allow the ball to bounce, and points are scored on every rally (Rally Point System). Teamwork, jumping power, and coordination are valued.

William G. Morgan
1895
It was created in 1895 by William G. Morgan in Holyoke, Massachusetts, as a low-intensity, less-contact sport than basketball for older members of the YMCA. He originally called it Mintonette. The net height was set "just above the average man's head." The rules were gradually adjusted, adopting the name Volleyball, and it became international in the early 20th century. The FIVB was founded in 1947.

Volleyball is played in a best-of-five sets format. The first four sets are played to 25 points, and the fifth (tie-breaker) set is played to 15 points, both requiring a minimum two-point lead. Crucial rules are: three touches per team (plus the block touch, which does not count), two consecutive touches by the same player (a fault), and rotation (players must change positions clockwise every time they win the right to serve). Positions (setter, attacker, blocker, libero) are highly specialized.
